Connecting your child to a fulfilling future

Kuss_Peter_2023.jpg

Choosing a pathway and a set of subjects is exciting, however it can be a little daunting. Don’t be worried, that’s what we’re here for. We will work closely with you to ensure you have a deep understanding of the course counselling process before final subject choices are made. Please make sure you ask lots of questions, read all the material carefully and seek support when you need it. Our goal is for students to choose a set of subjects they know they will enjoy and are passionate about and are likely to lead to a fulfilling future beyond school.

Early in term 3 students will engage in a series of activities during Program ID and subject lessons to research possible pathways beyond school, identify the subjects necessary for successful entry to the pathway and understand the curriculum pattern required for the next year level. This will include a full explanation of the requirements of SACE for students heading into the senior school (year 10 and beyond).

Being a large secondary school Golden Grove offers students a wide range of subject choice. For a full description of the possible subject offerings please access the respective year level Curriculum Handbooks available on the school website.

Golden Grove High is a member of the broader Golden Grove Secondary School Campus. Our partners are Gleeson College and Pedare Christian College. Whilst each school is independent of the others, we all access the campus “Shared Facilities” and collaborate to offer students in Year 11 and Year 12 access to a broader range of SACE subjects than is offered at the ‘home’ school. For example, if a Golden Grove student wishes to pursue a subject not offered here, they may be able to access the subject at Gleeson or Pedare (for no additional fee).

For students interested in pursuing a vocational pathway the VET handbook contains all the information you need to know. VET is offered both onsite and offsite for certificate courses in Year 11 and Year 12.

If you are unsure or have a question about this process, please reach out to either your child’s grove teacher or Sub School Leader. If they cannot answer your question directly, they will put you in contact with the person who can.

All the best for a successful pathway planning / subject selection experience.
